The Mayan Club, has definitely earned it’s reputation as the Salsa sanctuary in Los Angeles for many decades. The luster of the historical venue has impressed endless visitors from all over the world. People flock there for many reasons, some to meet that special someone, others to forget that not-so-special someone, and still others to see one of the many great performances that The Mayan Club provides for our entertainment.

On July 11, 2009 Club Mayan had Amarfis, a New York-based Merengue band, as their guests. The energy in the infamous temple that night was bursting through the walls and out into the city streets as the congas boomed, booties wiggled, and Amarfis did their “thang”. I know it’s not cute to have sweat dripping down your back regardless of whether you’re a guy or girl, but that night it was inevitable. The heat that was felt on the dance floor was a fusion of delicious Southern California weather and Merengue “sabrosura” so intense that the steam erupted from every pore on our sticky skin.

Both sets were sensational and of course left us wanting more. Amarfis provided their fans with endless hits such as “La Langosta” and “El Billete”. The soreness that overtook my body the next day was well worth it, until we meet again…
